About

My name is Amelia and I like to make things.  I make things from scratch, and I make things from other things.  I also fix, build and improve upon products and procedures. I have a husband, a toddler and three teenagers.  Fem Hack is a showcase of the things I make for my family, my friends and myself. This blog is a showcase of my hacks.

The purpose of this blog is to share and empower women to take control of their space through everyday DIY hacks.  Fem Hack is a collection of DIY strategies for females with a hacker attitude.

I have always liked do-it-yourself projects.  As a kid, I lived through several of my parents’ DIY home renovations.  We never hired an electrician or a plumber.  We never bought our Halloween costumes or Valentine’s Day cards.  Our garage was always full of Mom’s craft stuff and Dad’s tools.

Now I am married with children and my life is quite the same as it was as a kid.  As a couple, my husband and I have spent time in junkyards picking parts for our cars.  My daughter is a Pinterest crafting freak. One of my sons makes custom knives and the other maintains a Minecraft server.  Even my baby walks around the house with a (bitless) electric screwdriver ‘fixing’ everything from chairs to skateboards to stuffed animals.

I hope you enjoy sharing in these hacks and connecting with me across Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube.

If you want to contact me directly, I can be reached at amelia@femhack.com.

Thanks! And, take care!

Oh! And…in addition to running this blog, I’m also a social science researcher and documentary filmmaker.  Additionally, I work in live TV and sports, and I write and edit. You can check out some of my academic and personal projects here and my professional work at AEG Cinema.

Thanks! Though lately all my energy has been sapped by the process of moving to Vancouver!
